SEAFORD gardener Geoff Stonebanks had a record-breaking final open garden of the 2018 season on Sunday.
His award-winning garden saw an incredible 279 visitors throughout the day.
One hundred visited them during the first hour.
His volunteer team was put through their paces, keeping up with demand for entry and raffle tickets and the tea and cakes.
Ahead of the event, more than 200 portions of cake were baked in readiness and most were sold before the gate closed at 5pm.
Many visitors had driven some distance to see Driftwood, with one couple arriving from Chislehurst in Kent having read so much about the garden.
Geoff said: “We were totally rushed off our feet in the first hour and I really thought I might have to restrict entry but visitors were all so understanding.
“A day to remember but maybe not one to repeat!”
For those who have yet to see Driftwood, it will open as part of the Lewes District Artwave Festival on 18, 19, 26 and 27 August plus September 1 and 2 from 11am until 5pm with free entry but donations sought for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Tea and cakes will also be available to buy while you view the 16 artists work on display.
Recently Geoff was awarded the Don Mabey Award for “exceptional services to the town of Seaford” at the annual town forum.
Seaford Mayor Councillor Linda Wallraven praised Geoff for his commitment and dedication to the town.
She also acknowledged his tenth year of opening and said how this was the right year to receive this award.
Geoff said at the time: “I am absolutely thrilled to receive this award and to be recognised in such a positive way.
“I love doing what I do and I am naturally very proud of Driftwood.”
