Legends from the worlds of music, theatre, art and comedy star at festival

And the Jimmy Hill tribute supper features none other than Bobby Gould.

It is 100 years since Lloyd George signed the armistice to end World War 1 in Hurstpierpoint and so the underlying theme is ‘Peace’.

To celebrate this historic centenary, everyone is invited to ‘The 1918 Lloyd George Garden Party’ to kick off the festival at Danny House on September 2.

Anna Hope will share her novels which bookend the Great War, Stewart Hall will be telling the stories of some of the local men who fell in WW1 and David Roberts asks what can we learn from WW1 for the furthering of peace in the future.

Musically, there is something for everyone.

There’s Jazz and Blues, Cajun and Classical, Baroque, Baritone and Big Band. Richard Durrant with his guitar made from a 5000 year old English Oak tree and Opera to Opus Kink with Maisy Banks representing the young and up and coming talent in the village.

There is choreographer James Wilton’s dance company and multi-award-winning musical comedy ‘The Origin of the Species’ King Lear with Ian McKellan and Hitchcock’s ‘The Lodger’ with live accompaniment by Cyrus Gabrysch.

There will be the world premiere of WW1 drama ‘Winning the Peace’, written by Hurst resident, Kevin Carey to be performed at the Players Theatre.

If you want to get out and about, join Hamish to learn about pig husbandry or join the Mid-Sussex Ramblers on their favourite local walks around the area.

There’s Bushcraft for kids and a Family, Friendly Forage on Wolstonbury Hill.

There’s both a graffiti and musical theatre workshop for older kids and Short Stories, Tall Tales for the little ones.

Nominated for best family show at Brighton Fringe in 2015, SESKA’s crazy performance also joins the festival.

You can paint the unique view of the Downs from the Torch, join Fraser Trainer’s Scratch Band, laugh until your ribs ache at the two comedy nights, sing with Hurstpierpoint’s choir or just relax in an evening of contemplative mindfulness.

You might not know his name but you will know his work and you will want to hear his stories.

A man who has worked with David Bowie, Neil Young, Fatboy Slim, Iggy Pop, The Cure, Queen, Soft Cell, Wham!, The The and George Michael, will share personal stories in an intimate evening held at the New Inn on Monday 17th September.

Be warned, he talks at about 1000 mph so listeners of a weak disposition should maybe stay home!
