TWO bakeries, a coffee shop and cafe are on a list of the 100 most pet-friendly places in the world.

Gail’s Bakery in Hove, Bluebird Cafe in Ferring, Flour Pot Bakery in Brighton and Small Batch Coffee, also in Brighton, performed well in a survey of more than 10,000 members of TrustedHousesitters.com,.

It is the world’s largest house and pet sitting business, also based in Brighton.

Gail’s Bakery in Church Road, Hove, was the most popular cafe with animal lovers who enjoy its outdoor patio area, ranking at number 17 in the list.

Ferring’s Bluebird Cafe, which features its very own dog sausages on the menu, welcomes pups of all shapes and sizes all year round and ranked at number 55.

Flour Pot Bakery ranked at number 47 and Small Batch Coffee at 60.

Tim Lyons, managing director of TrustedHousesitters said: “We are extremely proud of the pet-friendly cafes in Brighton, Hove and the surrounding areas.

“They have really put us on the map as a pet-loving area.

“All four coffee shops and restaurants have had numerous recommendations.”

Small Batch Coffee in Brighton welcomes dogs in their cafe and they even have a regular well-behaved feret.

Co-founder Alan Tomlins said his cafe’s popularity may be because it is welcoming of many domesticated animals, as long as they are on a leash and well-behaved:

He said: “We’re thrilled to be named in TrustedHousesitters’ list of the top 100 pet-friendly places in the world.

“We love dogs and all pets and have bowls of water and dog treats at all our sites.

“The staff love our furry friends and enjoy taking selfies with them.

“For 99 per cent of the time, this means dogs but we get the occasional cat and even have one regular who brings their ferret.

“We’ve always welcomed them, ensuring they are well behaved and not near the food and drink prep areas.

“We feel they add so much to the atmosphere we try to create of a fun, vibrant community hub.”

The house and pet sitting site created its top 100 list after animal lovers in 130 countries shared their favourite pet-friendly destinations.

The list has been released to celebrate the launch of the new TrustedHousesitters app.

Available on the App Store, the app is free to download and enables owners and sitters to connect and stay in touch.
