BRIGHTON’S best and worst doctor’s surgeries have been revealed.

The NHS asked patients to rate their GP practices on everything from how easy it was to get through on the phone to the attitude of receptionists.

Three practices share the top spot in Brighton and Hove, with an almost perfect bill of health.

Montpelier Surgery, Links Road Surgery in Portslade and St Lukes Surgery in Saltdean, all scored 98 per cent for overall satisfaction.

At the other end of the scale, Brighton Station Health Centre in Queens Road managed just 70 per cent. Woodingdean Medical Centre (71 per cent) and Ardingly Court Surgery (72 per cent) both feature in the bottom three.

Senior partner at Montpelier Dr Jessica Cramp said: “We are delighted to know that our patients are happy with the service we provide.

“All members of our team work hard to offer patient centred care and we appreciate this positive feedback greatly.”

One in four Brighton patients said it was “not easy” to get through to their GP surgery on the telephone.

But only 43 per cent said that they knew that they could book appointments with their GP online – and just 15 per cent had done so.

The hardest to reach by phone were Park Crescent Health Centre and Trinity Medical Centre, where fewer than half of patients said it was easy. By contrast, 99 per cent of patients at The Haven Practice had no trouble ringing their surgery.

The vast majority of patients in the city (92 per cent) said receptionists were helpful.

But at Mile Oak Medical Centre and Broadway Surgery, only 76 per cent of patients agreed.

Almost a quarter of patients (23 per cent) said they struggled to access information through their GP surgery’s website. At School House Surgery, the figure rose to 40 per cent.

About one in eight patients (12 per cent) said they had a poor experience when booking an appointment.

Only half of patients at Broadway (50 per cent) and Ardingly Court surgeries (51 per cent) had a good experience.

The Royal College of GPs says that surgeries’ resources are stretched, but that doctors and their teams are “performing well in incredibly difficult circumstances”.

The figures from the 2018 GP Patient Survey include responses from 3,633 patients in Brighton and Hove.
