A RIDING group for disabled people has moved.

South Downs Riding for the Disabled group was based at Bridge House Equestrian Centre at Slinfold near Horsham.

But due to development plans on that site, it had to move.

Its new home is at the Horsham and Mid Sussex Equestrian Academy (HMSEA) at Albourne near Burgess Hill.

Carolyn Heitman from the group said: “We run three sessions on Wednesday mornings.

“We enjoyed five very successful and happy years at Bridge House during which time the owners, Liz and Chris McIlwraith, and the wonderful liveries who so kindly loaned their ponies to the group were always incredibly supportive.

“However HMSEA has extended a very warm welcome to us and our riders.

“After the upheaval of the move, we are all settling nicely into our new surroundings.

“We are now on our summer break but we are all looking forward to getting back in the saddle on September 12.”

The group is eager to encourage new volunteers and local organisations and companies who may wish to get involved.

It will have a stand at the Albourne Village Show on Saturday on the village green from noon until to 4.30pm.

Carolyn said: “We would be delighted to chat with anyone interested in joining the group or just learning more about the work we do.”

The organisation is also on Facebook @SouthDownsRDA.

The South Downs Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association has a long history.

It was founded in 1977 and operated– as you might expect – not far from the South Downs, at Upper Beeding.
