COURSES are being held to help people with their recovery from mental health.

An Open Day is being staged on Wednesday for prospective students interested in enrolling onto courses and workshops.

The event is being organised by the Brighton and Hove Recovery College.

It is provided by not-for-profit organisation Southdown in partnership with the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Lynsey Herman, manager for the Recovery College at Southdown, said: “The Open Day is a chance for people to meet our Recovery College team and find out about the courses and workshops available.

“With empowerment and learning at its core, the college is all about supporting people to be in control of their life despite their mental health challenges rather than focusing on the treatment of symptoms.

“It takes courage to face challenges in life but when we do, we often grow stronger and realise if we try, we can.

“I have a huge amount of respect for all our students and am immensely proud to see how courses they have taken have helped support them on their individual journeys of recovery.

“The team and I look forward to welcoming prospective students to our Open Day.

“Everybody is welcome.”

The event on Wednesday will highlight what is available in the autumn term.

Courses include the return of Wellbeing through Nature and Mindful Photography.

New workshops include creative printmaking and living with grief and loss.

All courses and workshops are co-produced and delivered by peer tutors with their own experience of mental health, alongside a clinical or other specialist trainer.

If you are unable to attend the Open Day, you can download the autumn term prospectus from www.southdown.org/mental-health-recovery/recovery-college-brighton-hove.

Registration to enrol onto courses in the autumn term is open until September 12.

This gives people time to find out what they want to try.
