What is your favourite place in Sussex?

I love Hastings seafront. The crazy golf end is great when I’m with the kids and I love taking my dog down to the sandy part at Ravenside beach towards Bexhill.

What do you most love about living in Sussex?

Hastings is a lot more relaxed, it’s a perfect environment for me and my family. It’s a complete opposite to how full-on things can be on the darts tour.

What advice would you give your 12-year-old self?

Work hard and believe in yourself because if you do that, you can achieve whatever you want to do.

It wasn’t until I was 15 that I wanted to become a darts player, and even then it was over a decade before I was able to do that professionally. I got myself a trade as an electrician and then the opportunity has come in darts.

What is your most valued possession?

My kids. I’ve got Leyton, 6, Imogen, 3, and Maddison, 1, and I love being with them. I spend as much time as I can at home when we’re not playing.

What is your biggest regret?

Not having had the drive to apply myself to darts earlier than I did.

What is your biggest fear?

Spiders and snakes - when I was in Australia recently I stayed away from the wild areas.

What is your proudest achievement?

Winning the World Championship was fantastic for me but I’d have to say my family - my wife Georgia and kids mean the world to me.

Which five people (dead or alive) would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

Eric Bristow and Phil Taylor because they’ve had the most successful darts careers ever and were great winners, plus Roger Federer, Pele and Jonny Wilkinson. They’re three people who have also been at the top of their sport.
