SHOCKING footage has revealed the moment a driver went over a grass verge and into the face of oncoming traffic on a dual carriageway.

Sasha Selby was stopped by police after a high speed chase, only narrowly avoiding a crash with other motorists on the A264 in Horsham.

The officer leading the pursuit admitted: “I had real concerns she was going to kill someone.”

But the unemployed 39-year-old was arrested at the scene at 12.30am on Sunday, July 1.

She was suspected of being a drink or drug driver, but by the time she was taken into custody, she tested just under the legal limit, and refused provide a blood test.

At Lewes Crown Court she was jailed for four months for dangerous driving and two weeks for failing to provide a specimen of blood for analysis.

The court heard how the pursuit started in Crawley Road as her white Volkswagen Golf went at high speed.

She indicated to turn left into Old Crawley Road, but changed her mind and continued on the A264.

PC Mark Stoner said his pursuit was part of the police’s annual summer crackdown between June 15 and July 15.

He said: “I followed the car and intended to stop it at the other end of Old Crawley Road. However, it then changed to lane two – while still indicating left – and to my horror it continued straight over the central reservation and onto the opposite carriageway, driving in the wrong direction.

“I immediately called radio control to report the manner of driving and continued the pursuit. I made a conscious decision not to illuminate my blue lights in case it put the driver under any more duress.

“As it reached 60mph, the driver was flashed by another motorist travelling directly into its path. It was at this point I had real concerns the driver was going to kill someone.

“It then went the wrong way around the roundabout and continued towards Rusper Road into the path of oncoming traffic.”

PC stoner used his police car to bring Selby’s car to a safe stop, with minimal damage to the cars and no injuries reported. He had initially suspected her of deliberately trying to evade him.

Selby, of Foxborough Gardens in Lewisham, was banned from driving for 20 months and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
