FOLLOWING on from the success of the three-day Artwave Bank Holiday, the final weekend is set to end the festival on a high with a mixture of events and lots of open houses and other venues welcoming visitors.

Organised by Lewes District Council, Artwave celebrates its 25th year of bringing together artists and makers and this year it features special colour themed events including family workshops, Art in Nature walks and an Art and Film Three Colour Trilogy.

In Seaford, there are free Colour the Coast family workshops run by Seaford Contemporary Illustrators and Printmakers.

Attendees are invited to design their own coast-themed work for a giant mural of the Seaford beach front. Tickets are needed in advance from www.wearescip.co.uk

Three Colours: Red will be shown on Saturday at the Towner Art Gallery new art cinema in Eastbourne.

Although this is the final film in director Krzysztok Kieslowski’s colour-themed trilogy, like the other two films, you can view this masterpiece without seeing the other two.

Tickets can be booked at www.townereastbourne.org.uk

The Coach House at Glynde Place is a new venue this year, where nine artists will be exhibiting for this weekend only. Work includes original paintings, drawings, stone sculpture, prints, video, papier mache models and artist-in-residence Jacky Misson. Glynde Place is also from 11am to 4pm.

Tucked away in the hills of Hamsey, Copyhold Farm Studios bring together the unique Knowledge Gallery whose marvels of mechanics and visions of fantasy come from recycled and reused materials from both nature and man-made sources.

Visit a shipping container on Newhaven’s west beach between 1pm and 5pm both days to see industrial landscapes of the area and a colour farm by artist Nick Bush and see an exhibition of prints of Eric Slater woodcuts at the Maritime Museum in the town followed by a visit to the other six venues in the Newhaven Trail.

Over this last Artwave weekend there is work on show from almost 600 artists and makers. Come and meet some of the creators, talk to them about their practice and buy art direct.

Many venues offer home-baked food and drink too. Pick up a brochure, or look on line to plan your weekend – there are four trails to choose from, making it a great way to visit places in the towns and villages you haven’t seen before.
