A CONVICTED paedophile who was jailed for buggery faces 15 new charges of historic sex offences.

Michael Green is accused of indecently assaulting a further seven boys in his various guises as both sports coach and teacher across Sussex between 1980 and 1994.

The “predatory” 75-year-old, formerly from Hove, would take boys from sports teams back to his home where he would then climb into bed with them.

At Lewes Crown Court, prosecutor Richard Cherrill described how Green performed sex acts on some boys as young as nine.

He would tell boys that they were special and that he loved them, and would beg for cuddles for his own sick desires.

One reported that he would get boys who felt “mystified and repulsed” to sit on his knee while he licked and nibbled their ears.

Green told the boys not to tell anyone about his crimes, and some were left feeling a sense of “inexplicable dread” about reporting it.

Mr Cherrill said he used his position at Cycle Speedway in Crawley, and at Windlesham House School in West Sussex to exploit boys.

“These positions provided ample opportunity for his predatory behaviour,” Mr Cherrill said.

Green is currently out of prison on licence after serving half of his nine-year sentence for buggery and indecent assault from 2014.

Mr Cherrill said the new charges were brought after other men started to come forward because of media coverage of the case, and from the high profile coverage surrounding other historic sex abuse cases.

He said: “We say his previous conviction is relevant because it shows his propensity and desire to abuse young boys in his care.

“This is a case about what happened to seven men, when each of them was a child, at the hands of Green.

“Each man accuses him of abusing them sexually when they were in his care, in a remarkably similar way.

“He was able to ingratiate himself with each boy, often making them believe that they were special. This is sometimes described as grooming.

“His purpose was to gain himself access to them for his own sexual purposes.”

Mr Cherrill said the trial is expected to last for about three weeks, with witnesses being called from across the country.

It includes new partners, wives, and even bosses of some of the men affected to describe the “anguish” caused.

Indeed when one man finally spoke to his new partner about the abuse for the first time, she described how he “cried uncontrollably”.

The hard-of-hearing pensioner appeared in the dock wearing a blue blazer jacket, white shirt, and black trousers.

He strained to listen and watched proceedings with a furrowed brow.

He denies the charges and the trial is set to continue today.
