CYCLISTS made the most of a range of cycling activities to celebrate the launch of a bike recycling project – ‘Recycle’.

Twenty cycling enthusiasts joined the Cycle Seahaven bike ride from the Big Park in Peacehaven, arriving at Denton Island at 1pm.

As well as the bike ride, people could enjoy free bike safety checks and a bike sale along with plenty of fun activities on offer for children and families.

‘Recycle’ is a project run by Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA) as part of the Get Socially Active project funded by European Social Fund and the National Lottery, through the Big Lottery Fund.

The ‘Recycle’ workshop team trains participants and volunteers to revamp donated bikes of any type and sell them on, re-investing in the project.

Participants learn useful new skills and unwanted bikes are given a new lease of life.

Based on Denton Island, it is led by the Friends Centre in Brighton

George Stonehouse, ‘Recycle’ advisor said, ‘It was great to promote the project to the local community and give people an idea of the useful work our participants are doing.”
