RAM raiders used a forklift to smash through a supermarket and steal a cash machine.
The JCB was stolen from Horsham, and then used smash into the Co-Op store in the village of Rudgwick in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The machine was then loaded onto the back of a 4X4 vehicle and driven away along the A281.
Witnesses reported the machine being stolen and reported it to the police, who are appealing for witnesses.
Detective Constable Kirstie Neal said: “This crime occurred in the middle of the night when the suspects knew there would be fewer witnesses, but they would have made a large amount of noise.
“The three suspects wore dark clothing and masks covering their faces and were at the scene for around five minutes.”
