BEING a regular reader of The Argus letters pages I felt I must reply to a letter from a reader who had difficulty getting a GP to see their 11-month old baby over a weekend.
At a recent barbecue in my daughter’s garden on the Saturday of the Pride Festival my wife was stung by a wasp inside her upper arm.
I managed to pull the stinger out and tried to suck the poison out and she seemed OK.
However, on the Sunday her arm was swelling up badly so I drove her to our local pharmacy who advised calling 111.
The call was answered after a short wait and we were told to attend A&E at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
With a kindly lift from my brother-in-law as I was worried about the parking situation because it was Pride weekend we arrived at A&E reception who already knew we were coming.
My wife was assessed by a friendly nurse and then seen by a very competent female doctor who provided my wife with the appropriate antibiotics.
From arrival to leaving was two hours which I and my worried wife thought was good considering the busy weekend.
Of course, we sympathise with the young couple and their baby and the experience they had with the 111 service, but we have only praise for the service we received.
