POP star Michael Rosenberg, aka Passenger, told the Brighton Dome audience on Sunday how proud he was to be back in his home town, especially with its rich musical heritage.

He is dead right. Brighton and Hove’s music scene has always flourished and indeed continues to do so.

Many famous musicians have also chosen to make their home here, including Nick Cave, David Gilmour, legendary guitarist of Pink Floyd, and superstar DJ Fatboy Slim.

The city is fortunate to have a plethora of music venues catering for mainstream acts and also those who are taking their first steps in the business.

Indeed, even established acts such as Rag ’n’ Bone Man, who is from Uckfield, first made an impact with a series of gigs in Brighton and the county also has one of the most talented singer-songwriters in the UK in the shape of Eastbourne’s David Ford.

This is great news not just for Sussex gig goers, but for the local economy too and long may it continue.

In recent months several top bands have appeared at the likes of the Brighton Centre and the Dome, as well as Concorde 2.

Bands such as Editors and Glasvegas will be visiting the city next month as well as the brilliant American singer John Grant.

The local scene is also thriving with a profusion of new bands and singer-songwriters making waves of their own.

There is also a healthy pub scene with many in the city branching out to host performers on a regular basis. Bearing in mind much of Quadrophenia was filmed here, it is clear that the city still rocks to this day.
