THE beekeeping councillor nicknamed “Bee Man” has made a prime-time television appearance alongside Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain.

Councillor for Wish Ward, Robert Nemeth, donned his Hove T-Shirt as he appeared on BBC2’s Nadiya’s Family Favourites.

The episode saw Nadiya visiting two of Robert’s 30 honey hives in Hassocks before suiting up in bee-gear to extract and taste some fresh honey.

Robert said: “The producer randomly got in contact, probably after they saw stories in The Argus about the city’s Bee Man, which is of course me.

“Nadiya is just as nice in real life as she comes across on television.

“She was open and friendly and talks about her family non stop and has a real way of making people feel at ease.”

Robert said he watched the episode with his family to “check I wasn’t too embarrassing”.

After inspecting the honey, Robert and Nadiya headed to Jane Keehan’s house.

Jane, who lives in Hove, runs Franklin’s Antiques and Interiors and regularly buys the councillor’s honey.

She said: “It is quite a weird experience when you’ve got a house full of cameras and lights, but it was a really fun.

“I watched the episode at home with beers on ice and cooking chilli for friends while we all watched my television debut.”

The six minutes of television actually took more than six hours to film.

The crew spent more than half an hour filming one mouthwatering shot of Robert’s honey falling into a cup of tea.

Jane said: “There was a phenomenal amount of equipment that came into my basement.

“They had a slow motion camera that moved on a platform.

“However, it took some time to get that ultimate dribble.”

The episode was the eighth of the series, which are all available on BBC iPlayer for those who missed it.

Nadiya Hussain is a TV chef, author and television presenter.

The mum-of-three rose to nationwide fame after winning the sixth series of The Great British Bake Off in 2015 with an array of mouthwatering creations that wowed the judges.
