A PLUMBER made a baby cry in a bizarre road rage tirade because the tot’s mum almost got herself run over.

Paul Good, 33, hurled abuse at a couple and their newborn baby after he nearly drove into the family as they were out shopping.

It is understood the child’s mother opened her car door onto the road and stepped out, causing Good to narrowly avoid hitting her.

The plumber got out of his van and began arguing with the couple, before smashing their headlight, which caused the baby to cry.

Now he has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 and carry out community service after the bizarre incident in February this year.

Prosecutor Gaynor Byng told Worthing Magistrates’ Court that Good “indicated he wanted to fight” the husband after was confronted over the “near-miss”.

Reading from his statement, the prosecutor said: “He got right up into my face and started pointing at me being loud and abusive.

“He then said that he wanted to sort me out. He indicated that he wanted to fight me.

“I was a bit scared. All I wanted to do was go back to my car and forget the whole thing.”

Good, from Worthing, shook hands with the victim, who thought the dispute was over.

But the thug then returned and smashed the family’s car.

The man’s statement added: “My wife started screaming and my child in the back started to cry.”

Good, who has qualified as a plumber since the incident, then got into his van and drove off.

An earlier hearing was told he was driving “at speed” and had almost hit the woman as she got out of her own car.

The prosecutor at that hearing, David Reader, said: “His wife got out of the vehicle to cross the road and had to jump back.”

Good flew into a rage when the husband confronted him over the “near miss”, the court heard.

He declined legal representation at court, was ordered to pay £1,075, including £640 of compensation for the damage to the car.

He was also ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work.
