TODAY we officially start our search for the Community Stars of 2019.

Last week The Argus was proud to release details of its annual awards scheme for Sussex.

Now we need to receive nominations for all the categories.

Every Thursday and Saturday we will be turning the spotlight on to one category.

Today we start with a very emotive one, Courageous Child of the Year.

This category is proudly sponsored by Jefferies Funeral Directors.

Simon Jefferies said: “When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage, and these awards recognise the courage of children who step up to the plate and accept that challenge head on through untold sacrifice.

“We at Jefferies Funeral Directors are once again thrilled to be associated with The Argus 2019 Community Star Awards and to sponsor the Courageous Child Award.

“Good luck to all the nominees.”

So who could you nominate in this category?

Last year we honoured a toddler born with a rare genetic condition.

Young Loui Herriott-Heath, from Brighton, was chosen as a brand ambassador for Lulas Dudes and Dolls after his mother Karly Herriott sent in a photo of him wearing one of its products.

The company has also made T-shirts to help fundraise for operations he needs to live with Treacher Collins syndrome, which affects the development of facial bones and tissue.

Loui’s condition is so severe he has to have a tube inserted into his windpipe to breathe, he is fed through a naso-gastric tube, he wears a bone-anchored hearing aid on a headband and is unable to speak.
