IT REALLY is great to see the giant snails being rolled out across Brighton and Hove.

What a great idea and it is all being done to benefit charity, too.

The snails have been beautifully decorated and come in a variety of vibrant colours. It is all to raise funds for the Martlets Hospice, which cares for terminally ill people.

What makes it extra special is that the snails have been strategically placed throughout the city and there is even one at Victoria Station in London.

This gives families, and particularly children, the opportunity to check out all the snails on a day out in the city. It is bound to be fun.

Brighton and Hove is certainly the perfect city to host this type of event.

Renowned for being welcoming and friendly, its residents and indeed visitors, tend to embrace art in all its forms and it has to be said, many of the snails truly are works of art.

Two years ago, the Snow Dogs went down a storm and The Argus, which has its own snail in Old Steine, has no doubt the mighty molluscs will prove equally popular.

With celebrities including Hove’s superstar DJ Fatboy Slim and children’s book illustrator Nick Sharratt backing the project, it is expected that all the snails will be in place today.

They may well pop up in entirely unexpected places as well as the usual well-known tourist spots.

Finding them all will no doubt take a lot of legwork but we are sure it will be worth it.
