A WORTHING group is celebrating a successful five years supporting adults with learning disabilities.

Superstar Arts is a not for profit community interest company providing a variety of creative projects in the heart of Worthing.

It gives people an artistic outlet and a chance to really be a part of their local community.

Directors and co-founders Jo Sullivan and Jo Telling say a lot has happened in the five years.

The company made the Fortuna 50 index, being in the top fastest growing small businesses in the UK run by women.

Superstar Arts was also delighted to receive the Sunny Worthing Business Award in 2016 for the best Community Project.

Jo said: “We are committed to delivering high quality, meaningful, creative projects for young people and adults with learning disabilities.

“Our purpose is to create opportunities for people with learning disabilities to develop their own inspirational and unique ideas.

“We aim to encourage learning through experimentation, questioning and discovery, building confidence and self-esteem and enable people with learning disabilities to explore social and emotional issues in a positive, creative way.

“Our creative projects have continued to grow as have our group holidays and the launch of a friendship group ‘Super friends’ which provides a chance to socialise and have trips out.

“Art work is now showcased at a regular exhibition, where some of the many lovely items they make are for sale to support self-funding.

“You will also hear the Superstar Arts choir perform which is always very uplifting.

Robert a participant, said: “Superstars has made me more confident and given me many new friends.

“I feel at home here, making all of our costumes is so much fun.

“I couldn’t wait to show them off at the Rotary Carnival.”

All the participants design and create their own props and costumes within their projects.

Jo said: “We will continue with our aim and focus for inclusion and to always give our participants a meaningful, high quality positive experience, developing everybody’s creative ideas and make the artistic contribution of adults with learning disabilities more visible in the community.

“So a big sparkly thank you to local businesses, families, carers and friends who have supported us over these five years – people helping people is a great thing for all of us.”
