A POLICE officer has been accused of the rape of a student abroad.

PC Lee Martin-Cramp, of Hereward Way, Lewes, faces extradition to Antigua, where it is alleged he raped a foreign student in 2015.

The 25-year-old, who is also a football referee in Sussex, works for the Metropolitan Police and has been suspended from duty.

He was visiting the Caribbean island for a friend’s wedding when the alleged rape happened. Martin-Cramp was arrested in December and Home Secretary Sajid Javid approved the extradition last month. A date has not yet been set for it.

A Met Police spokesman said: “PC Lee Martin-Cramp appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court as the subject of an extradition hearing on June 28. His extradition to Antigua was granted, as was conditional bail. A date on which the extradition will take place has not yet been set.

“He is facing an allegation of rape in May 2015. This led to an extradition request from Antiguan authorities and an arrest warrant was issued by a District Judge in June, 2016. The officer is currently suspended from duties. He will be subject to internal police discipline procedures once the criminal case has concluded.”
