STARS of the Seventies have announced a major UK tour.

Suzi Quatro and David Essex will co-headline the Legends Live tour, which takes place next April.

The ten-date extravaganza will also feature Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers, Smokie and Showaddywaddy.

Between them the pop bands have more than 50 top 30 hits and have sold more than 100 million records.

Their tour promises plenty of nostalgia as they perform many of their biggest hits.

The announcement follows 2017’s tour of the same name, which Quatro and Essex once again co-headlined.

On that occasion they were joined by The Osmonds and Hot Chocolate.

Between 1973 and 1980, Suzi Quatro featured in the British charts for no fewer than 101 weeks.

She was the first female bass player to become a star and has sold more than 55 million records to date.

The American singer and guitarist said: “The last tour was successful and as much as I love doing my own show it’s fun to be on with some different acts.

“I stand on the side and watch everybody because those are my memories too. Good music lasts.

Suzi’s biggest hits include Can The Can and Devil Gate Drive

She will be closing the show each night, with David Essex performing directly before her.

She said she had always admired the pop heart throb’s talent as a performer and believes their differing musical styles mesh well to provide a good show.

She said: “I’ve known David a long time, he’s a lovely man.

“He still has that twinkle, he always will.”

Essex, whose hits include Hold Me Close and Gonna Make You A Star, had success as an actor as well as a pop singer. He appeared in the stage show Godspell and the film That’ll Be The Day, among others.

The Legends Live tour kicks off on April 4 in Manchester, culminating on April 14 in Bournemouth.

It will travel the length and breadth of the country, including Brighton.

Suzi may be approaching 70 but shows no signs of slowing up. Speaking about her love of life on the road she said: “I was born to entertain, that’s how it is.

“I’m most happy when I’m creating a new song or I’m on the stage. I’m an old fashioned entertainer. I’ve been in the business for 54 years and if I ever go out there with a phony smile that’s the day I stop.”

The Legends Live 2019 tour comes to the Brighton Centre on Sunday, April 7. Ticket are on sale now from www.legendslive.org.
