A TEENAGER has been arrested after a hit-and-run left a nine-year-old boy in hospital.

A moped rider knocked Logan Dore off his scooter in Whitehawk Road, Brighton, at about 12.15pm on Sunday.

The boy suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

A 16-year-old boy handed himself in to Sussex Police this evening and was arrested on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle.

It came just hours after police offered a £500 reward to anyone who helped police trace the rider and passenger.

After the crash the moped sped off, leaving Logan lying in the road.

He was found covered in blood by his mother, Sarah Budd, who spoke to The Argus about the horrifying moment.

It was feared Logan might have suffered a fractured skull but a CT scan revealed swelling of his brain.

He has since been discharged from the Royal Sussex County Hospital and is recovering at home.

The incident was captured on CCTV and the shocking footage showed Logan being flung across the road and into a parked car.

Speaking earlier today, before a teenager handed himself in, Chief Inspector Rachel Swinney, of Sussex Police, said: “This was a very distressing incident which has left a young child in hospital with significant injuries and I am absolutely determined to trace whoever is responsible.

“We released the footage of the incident with the full support of the victim’s family, and we continue to offer our support to them.

“As part of our ongoing investigation, I am offering a £500 reward for information which leads to an arrest and conviction.

“Someone, somewhere, must know who is responsible and I am urging anyone with any information to contact us.”

Sarah, 41, heard her daughter scream as she saw Logan lying in the road.

She said: “I will never forget the screams from my daughter who witnessed it from her bedroom window or my nephew as he ran to tell me.

“Seeing my baby’s legs from under the car and his shoes and sweets scattered in the road will haunt me always.”

Sarah said Logan has not been able to sleep since the accident.
She said when he does drift off he wakes from pain or jumps and starts crying.

Sarah also urged anyone with information to come forward.

The silver and black moped is believed to have been damaged in the impact.

The rider had a passenger and was driving south.

  • An earlier version of this story stated that two people had been arrested, as previously stated by Sussex Police. The police later issued a second statement which confirmed that that just one boy had in fact been arrested.
