HERE we go again as graffiti once again blights our city.

Pleas to desist from such antisocial behaviour and vandalism, for that is what it is, continue to fall on deaf ears as far as the perpetrators are concerned.

The latest examples of graffiti have been inflicted on the Undercliff Walk between Brighton Marina and Rottingdean.

Some may call it art but to most it certainly isn’t especially when it amounts to crude scrawls with no artistic merit whatsoever.

Yes, some graffiti artists are talented but there are places for them to display their creativity without damaging buildings or anything else that takes their fancy.

The fact of the matter is the city looks a mess thanks to the profusion of graffiti being sprayed liberally across practically every available surface.

Take a walk up North Street towards Churchill Square and look at if for yourselves.

It looks terrible and that is just one example.

Are there any streets in Brighton with buildings that have escaped the blight of graffiti? If so, it would be interesting to know where they are.

Indeed, the problem has become so endemic that Brighton and Hove City Council’s one dedicated graffiti remover no sooner gets rid of one than several others are daubed on walls elsewhere.

You cannot help but feel sorry for him.

He is doing his level best but it seems it is a totally unwinnable battle.

Some will say it is a sign of the times but that shouldn’t be used as an excuse.

The vast majority, however, would say they wish it would be erased from the city, permanently.
