IT HAS now been just over a week since Snailspace was launched in and so far it has undoubtedly proved a roaring success.

The 50 large snails have been placed across Brighton and Hove, as well as one at Victoria Station in London, with many sponsored by local businesses.

Money raised, including when the snails are auctioned off later in the year, will benefit Martlets hospice, which provides end of life care.

Many families have been out trying to track down all of the snails and that was again the case yesterday despite the weather being less than kind.

The snails come in a variety of colours and designs and they all have names.

They have been placed in a variety of prominent positions such as at the entrance to the pier, as well as Old Steine, Pavilion Gardens, Hove Park, Hove Lagoon and the marina.

They come with a variety of names too, including Fastforward: The Mixtape Snail, sponsored by Fatboy Slim.

There are also other eye catching snails such as Fabtastic and Scoopalicious, both created by Brandwatch, the headline sponsor for Snailspace.

They were specifically designed to evoke memories of enjoyable days at the seaside. There is also Bellisimo, sponsored by The Argus, which is in Old Steine.

All of them look absolutely splendid and with a map, pointing out exactly where the snails are, it is a delight to see so many youngsters enjoying “snail spotting”.

Fortunately, the snails will be with us for quite a few more weeks, so get out there and check them out. They certainly add to the vibrancy of the city.
