A PEDESTRIAN was hit by a car and injured while she crossed the road.

Police were called to the A259 in Newhaven after the crash between 9pm and 10pm on September 1.

A 21-year-old woman was hit as she crossed near the junction with Lewes Road and suffered ankle and rib injuries. She was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

But despite the driver stopping at the scene, she did not stop to leave any details before she drove off in her silver car.

It could have been a Peugeot or a Ford Focus, police say.

The victim also reported that the driver got out of the car to retrieve a wing mirror which had fallen off the car.

PC Stuart Kenway said: "The car could be a Peugeot or a Ford Focus. If you saw what happened or if you think you know who the driver may be, please contact us."

Information can be reported on the Sussex Police website or via 101, quoting reference 552 of 03/09.
