A bar owner is opening a “country pub” in the city.

Chris Smith already owns the award-winning Plotting Parlour in Steine Street, Brighton.

Now he is launching Daddy Long Legs, named after the historic Brighton to Rottingdean seashore electric railway.

Jake Goldstein, general manager of the new venture, in Arundel Road, Kemp Town, said it would be quite different to the Plotting Parlour, which won the title of best cocktail bar in the Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Awards.

He said: “The feel we want to go for is the real country pub vibe, but in town.

“We actually have a garden in Brighton that has grass.

“And it’s so peaceful to sit in.”

The team has spent six months refurbishing the former Newbush pub.

Chris said: “We are looking forward to opening the doors.

“It has taken quite a bit of work to change it from what the previous pub looked like but we are nearly ready.

“We are going to go by what the locals want.

“We will have good locally sourced English fizz, wines and high end spirits.”

The pub, which can hold up to 200 people, has a large beer garden and will serve classic pub food.

Daddy Long Legs will be dog friendly – and home to three pub dogs, Jade, Ben and Pebbles

Jake said: “In comparison to The Plotting Parlour, it is definitely more of a relaxed pub environment.

“Because of the location we want to be as inclusive as possible.

“We want to provide a space where we can provide a broad spectrum of food and drink to cater to different demands.

“It will have a minimalist, fresh and vibrant feel to it.”
