TRAINS to London are being cancelled, delayed and diverted due to a broken rail.

Urgent repairs are being carried out between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon.

Disruption is expected until 11am.

A spokesman said: "A temporary line block will need to take place, therefore services will be diverted on to the slow line towards London where possible.

"This is expected to become congested as we enter the morning peak."

Southern Rail offered the following advice to passengers:

Please allow extra time for your journey this morning, check journey planners for up to date information and listen to station announcements for platform alterations.

There is a track defect in the Coulsdon South area. Network Rail operatives have been dispatched to carry out repairs, with the work estimated to take around 90 minutes.

This will be a temporary fix to enable train services to resume, with a permanent fix to be implemented overnight.

How is this currently affecting the train service?

Currently, non stopping services that run on the fast lines between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon are subject to delays, cancellations and alterations.

Gatwick Express services between Brighton and London Victoria are cancelled.

Southampton, Portsmouth Harbour and Bognor Regis services will terminate and restart at Three Bridges.

To aid you on your journey, Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink customers can use the following:

  • London Buses between Redhill and London Terminals
  • London Underground on any reasonable routes
  • Mutual ticket acceptance between Southern and Thameslink
  • Metrobus services northbound from Gatwick Airport

Please be aware this is also affecting Great Western Railway services which are unable to run between Redhill and Gatwick Airport.
