PARENTS say they have been “left in the dark” as mystery surrounds a headteacher’s departure from her school.
Suzanne Morgan left her post at Saltdean Primary School after “serious accusations” were made regarding her and the school.
However, these claims have not been disclosed and the school governors remain coy about the situation.
They released a letter on Tuesday informing parents Mrs Morgan, who had been on “sick leave” since the summer term, has left her post following the allegations, which were made during the last academic year.
The claims do not relate to safeguarding of children.
The letter has got the rumour mill spinning, sparking gossip among parents.
Yesterday two mothers spoke to The Argus anonymously about Mrs Morgan’s departure.
One mum, who has two children attending Saltdean Primary, said: “We just assumed she was sick.
“The letter was so ambiguous. It doesn’t really make any sense.
“Clearly she’s left on bad terms and the ‘illness’ last year wasn’t the actual reason she’s gone.
“My kids loved her – she knew all of the children’s names, which says a lot. We’re all very disappointed.”
The other mum, who also has two children at the school, added: “I’ve heard a lot of different things about why she left. We’re in the dark about it.”
Saltdean Primary was rated “Good” in its last Ofsted inspection four years ago, and the mothers said Mrs Morgan was good for the school. But the “serious accusations” relate to the school’s “organisation” rather than personal relationships, as has been mooted.
Chairman of governors Joe Paxton would not confirm whether Mrs Morgan had been sacked or quit. He said: “I can understand our parents’ frustration, and I’m acutely aware rumours are circulating.
“As we stated in the letter, we would like to reiterate that the allegations made were around the school’s organisation. I can therefore confirm that the allegations were not regarding personal relationships.
“I would like to give further information out in order to offer parents/carers reassurance. However, for legal reasons we cannot do currently so. Unfortunately processes and procedures have dictated, and continue to dictate, what we are able to say. We will make a full disclosure as soon as we are able to.”
