TESCO shoppers have been taken ill after breathing in paint fumes.
Six people are believed to have inhaled the fumes at the store in Broad Piece, Littlehampton, this morning.
Emergency services were called at 7.25am and it is thought the fumes may have been drawn into the supermarket from line painting being undertaken outside.
The people's injuries are not believed to be serious.
Police said details of the incident will be passed to the Health and Safety Executive.
A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Ambulance crews attended the scene following a call made at approximately 7am this morning.
"Our hazardous area response team has also attended the scene.
"Six patients have been taken to St Richard’s and Worthing hospitals suffering from breathing difficulties."
