A HIGH-POWERED female company boss brought together six businesses yesterday to raise funds for a cancer charity.

Gina Citroni, CEO of Amplicon, has organised fundraising events for Macmillan Cancer Support for a number of years.

This year she decided to bring together six companies on the Centenary Industrial Estate in Hughes Road, Brighton, and stage a Macmillan coffee morning.

Gina said: “We have all have had people near and dear to us who have received wonderful support from Macmillan when they have been diagnosed with cancer.

“It is so reassuring to know that those with cancer can enjoy the comfort the charity provides.

“Sadly, it is rare to walk into someone who has not enjoyed these services.

“We can all embrace the charity and the wonderful work that it does.”

Ms Citroni said this was the first time she had tried to bring together different companies on the industrial estate.

Those who took part were Amplicon, Electric Center, Shaws glass and window company, Brighton Tools and Fixing, Brighton Sunblinds and AJ Taylors electrical contractors.

She said: “We do something for Macmillan each year and this time I thought it would be good to invite other businesses on our estate.

“We are most small and privately-owned companies and I thought it would be good to meet everyone, most of whom we don’t meet on a regular basis.”

Amplicon marketing manager Miriam Bernal said the day was very special.

She said: “Organising the Amplicon baking challenge event has reminded me why I love my job.

“I am an avid supporter of charities whose goal is to support and help cancer patients.

“This cause is very close to my heart as I have lost three members of my family to this horrible disease.

“I try to do my bit and fundraise for local charities.

“For the last three years I have personally organised and actively participated in the Amplicon 5-aside football fundraiser hosted in October.”

The cake baking was judged by Argus advertising manager Tina Daniels.

She said: “It was very moving to see some 60 people come together to support a fantastic cause.

“It was a real privilege just to be there and see how much the event really meant to everyone.

“Macmillan Cancer Support does a fantastic job for people who find themselves in a terrible situation when they are diagnosed with cancer.

“It is a desperate time for people and it’s great to know that Macmillan is there for you and your family and friends.”
