TRANSLATION services champion Geoffrey Bowden has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the annual Language Industry Summit Awards.

Geoffrey, who has worked in the translation industry for nearly 40 years, was presented with the Eichner Distinguished Service Award, recognising a lifetime’s contribution to the language sector.

This was at the Association of Translation Companies’ 2018 Summit.

His presentation was part of an annual ceremony designed to celebrate success in the fast-growing language services industry, with awards covering a range of categories being handed out during a gala dinner in Cardiff.

Geoffrey was Secretary of the ATC from 1980 until 2017, helping it grow from a body representing a small group of British translation companies into the leading voice for language service providers in the UK, with members around the world.

Geoffrey, a former Brighton and Hove City councillor, said: “It was extremely flattering to have been recognised for my work in the language industry, but, in all honesty, I felt a little uncomfortable to have been honoured for doing a job that I have loved so much.”
