ONE half of a legendary music duo is returning to the stage for a UK tour next year.

Singer-songwriter Art Garfunkel has announced a run of shows for April, including a date in Brighton.

He will appear at Brighton Dome on April 7.

The 76-year-old is best known for his partnership with Paul Simon.

The American folk duo were one of the bestselling groups of the Sixties.

Between 1964 and 1970 the pair released five influential studio albums, with songs such as Bridge Over Troubled Water, Mrs Robinson and The Sound Of Silence still proving popular to this day.

They won ten Grammy awards and in 1990 they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

The pair, who met in school in New York, had a rocky relationship which led to many artistic disagreements.

They eventually split up in 1970. Their final studio record, Bridge Over Troubled Water was released that year and was their most successful, becoming one of the world’s best-selling albums.

Simon and Garfunkel reunited several times and went on tour but in 2018, Paul Simon announced his retirement from touring.

Art Garfunkel has had a popular solo career but has not released a solo album since 2007’s Some Enchanted Evening.

Next year’s tour is expected to catalogue a journey through his musical career, with a mix of duo work and solo material to give the audience a real taste of nostalgia.

The performance will also feature stories from the singer’s life, and perhaps even some of his poetry as well.

Art embarked on a successful acting career, including two Mike Nichols’ films, 1970’s Catch-22 and 1971’s Carnal Knowledge.

Apart from an appearance in a 2017 short film, his last acting appearance came in 2010’s The Rebound.

The run of shows begins in Oxford on April 6 and will end in Gateshead on April 20.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday.
