Bent Double

HHHH

Komedia, Brighton, Sunday, October 7

HELD together brilliantly by regular host, Zoe Lyons, Bent Double was crippling funny with the audience spoilt for choice with five quality comics.

Lyons, who has an impressive stand-up CV including Live At The Apollo and Mock The Week, brought the big laughs immediately with honest and hilarious commentary on topics ranging from road sweepers to nudist beaches, quick on her feet with fantastic off-the-cuff audience banter.

Next up was Australian-born Bec Hill, making her Bent Double debut.

The highlight of her set was her beautifully creative drawings which came to life when she pulled tabs.

Some silly wordplay and generally goofiness had the audience chuckling the whole way through her strong set.

Jilberto Soto, an American, London-based comedian, got range of strong reactions from raucous laughter to shocked gasps with close the mark anecdotes on political correctness, immigration and one-night stands.

Sara Seibel got the upbeat tone back on track with sharp observations about shopping in the children’s clothing section and the much-covered but always funny subject, Trump.

Intervals were short to keep the atmosphere going but it was clear the audience were itching for their headliner.

Shappi Khorsandi was well worth the wait and hands down the winner of the night.

The star of Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here had the audience howling with her no holds barred reviews of her camp-mates from, as she hilariously described it, “I want to be a celebrity…please give me a chance.”

Her zany energy filled the room as she blazed through topics including motherhood, religion, veganism and writing a book.

Always self-deprecating and quick witted, her set flew by with one audience member even shouting for more.

No two Sunday nights are the same at Komedia but tonight showcased exactly why they are so popular.
