Thousands of homes and businesses in Horsham were left without water on Sunday morning after a pipe burst.

Southern Water confirmed an 18-inch trunk main had burst in Five Oaks Road in Slinfold at about 9am.

Inspectors were sent to the site to repair the leak.

Southern Water tweeted: "Our first priority is to inform all those customers directly affected and we currently estimate that everyone's water supply will be back up and running within a few hours.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused and we appreciate customers' patience while we repair the leak."

At about 2.30pm, the company updated on its Twitter account: "We are now seeing water pressures and flows returning to normal.

"We will continue to recharge the network and we very much hope customers' water supply will return within the next hour."
