FILM fans were left confused by the closure of one of the city’s biggest cinemas.

Brighton’s Odeon Cinema was closed as a result of “technical issues”, which were believed to have started on October 6.

A spokesman from the cinema, in West Street, said: “Unfortunately, a technical fault with the fire alarm meant that Odeon Brighton was temporarily closed while essential works were underway.

“We apologise for any inconvenience the closure caused to our guests.”

However, it meant members of the cinema’s popular monthly scheme, Limitless, would have to travel to the next nearest venue in Hastings to enjoy the unlimited films that come with the membership.

Limitless member Antony Palmer said: “My girlfriend and I had booked tickets to the 40th anniversary screening of Halloween, which was cancelled, First Man and Bad Times At The El Royale, so three evenings have been spoilt.

“Communication has been appalling and completely unapologetic with no explanation other than there were issues surrounding a fire alarm.

No kind of compensation has been offered.

“We are Limitless members so pay a monthly fee which is useless if the cinema is closed. I love the cinema and Limitless is good value but it’s just a shame.”

Emily Sherwin, another Limitless member, said: “I tried to go on Tuesday but when I got to the door at the back of the cinema it was locked and so was the emergency door.

“I went around to the front but these doors were locked too, and there was a sign on one of them saying that they were going to delay their morning showings slightly that day, but this was at 5.20 in the evening.

“I couldn’t get hold of them on my phone or on Twitter as everyone had gone home, so I only found out two hours later via the website that there was a technical error and there were now no films that day, and it was only after this was put up that it stopped you buying tickets.

“It’s a shame really as this is the only problem I’ve had with them in the past three years of being a Limitless customer.”
