A NEW pub described as ‘informal in a calm but vibrant area’ is opening in Brighton.

The team comes from the creators of cocktail bar, The Plotting Parlour, in Steine Street, Brighton.

Staff have now created a new concept: Daddy Longlegs, in Kemptown, on the site of the former New Bush pub in Arundel Road.

The pub takes its name from the Brighton and Rottingdean Seashore Electric Railway, which carried tourist passengers from Kemptown to Rottingdean from 1896 to 1901.

Invented by Magnus Volk, the structure was dubbed the Daddy Long Legs due to its raised platform and 7m stilts.

Remnants of Volk’s ‘sea voyage on wheels’ can still be seen today at low tide.

General ManagerJake Goldstein said: “We will be creating the atmosphere of an informal pub in a calm but vibrant area,

“The Daddy Longlegs is an escape from city life.

“Based just off Brighton seafront near Brighton Marina, the Daddy Longlegs is a welcoming pub that is all about quality.

“The service style is casual and friendly with premium spirits and interesting wines.”

The opening date has not yet been revealed.

Fleurets handled the sale of the pub.
