AS A bus driver in Brighton I would like to say how mad the plans are for moving the Pavilion bus stops to the bottom of north street are.

The space there is big enough for just two buses at most, one bendy bus would take up the whole space just to itself.

You get masses of people waiting for buses at the Pavilion bus stops, even more so in rush hour.

Can you imagine them all waiting at the bottom of North Street, a huge crowd in a little space blocking it for anymore walking past.

Ive seen bendy buses taking more than five minutes to load passengers at the Pavilion bus stops.

Can you imagine if that’s at the bottom of North Street blocking up the stop with a queue of buses waiting behind.

Lessons should be learned from history, look at North Street going up, the old bus stops were further down the hill. There, buses could get on the stop and out of the road and buses could pass buses loading on the stop.

Then they moved the bus stops further up North Street and now buses stop and load in the middle of the road, blocking it so nothing behind can pass and sometimes it can take more than ten minutes to get from the bottom of North Street just to the Clock Tower with a queue of buses and taxis behind.

The council should learn from this and not make the same mistake moving the Pavilion bus stops.

Governments and councils should be pushing public transport to make it better, not worse.
