FOUR cars and a van were involved in a crash on the A29.

The accident happened just before 1pm at Adversane, near Billingshurst.

A woman driving one of the vehicles was cut free and was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: "We were called to the scene at about 1pm to an RTC.

"Four patients were taken to the hospital. A woman who suffered the most serious injuries was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

"Two were taken to Worthing Hospital and one was taken to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester. They are not believed to be suffering life-threatening injuries."

A West Sussex Fire Service spokesman said: "We were called to an RTC in Stane Street, Adversane at 1.06pm this afternoon.

"Two engines and one heavy rescue vehicle were sent to the incident, which involved four cars and a van.

"Two people trapped in the vehicles were extricated and handed over to the care of the ambulance. Crews are currently making the scene safe."

A spokesman for the air ambulance said: "An air ambulance was dispatched from Redhill at 1.13pm to an incident in Adversane."

Emergency services left the scene at about 4.30pm.
