Today’s Timeout goes underground to the city’s sewer system, which is usually hidden.
That is, unless it collapses as it did in the centre of Brighton in 1985 or you take a guided tour and walk through the system beneath our streets.
Have you taken a tour or do you remember the collapse?
These lucky people were privy to the workings of the underground water drainage system, as they took a tour of the Brighton sewers in 1979.
Southern Water still operates tours, taking people through 366 metres of sewers, beginning near the Brighton Palace Pier and ending in the Old Steine Gardens.
Does anyone remember the time the sewer collapsed in North Street, in 1985?
It looked like a very dramatic scene, with the entire road out of use.
