WHETHER you like them thin and crispy, deep pan or not at all - nobody can deny pizza is still a favourite.

The delicious layers of stone-baked dough, tangy tomato and a whole lot of cheese represent a menu must-have for many.

Brighton provides ample choice in this area, with a plethora of pizzerias found throughout the city’s streets.

But, which restaurant delivers the most delicious Italian discs and stands above the rest as Brighton’s best pizza restaurant? These were among the top rated on TripAdvisor:

Seasons Italian Restaurant - Boundary Road, Hove

Seasons is an authentic and welcoming Italian restaurant found on the outskirts of Hove.

Run by a father and daughter team, it offers great service from their team of Italian waiters and, most importantly, impeccable pizza.

Hamid Shoib, manager of Seasons Italian Restaurant, said: “It’s very competitive in Brighton, but we use homemade ingredients, freshly made in our restaurant every day.

“We also use our own special pizza sauce, which we came up with and developed the recipe for.”

Fatto a Mano - London Road, Brighton

Fatto a Mano has three locations in Hove, London Road and North Laine.

It’s a firm favourite with its customers for its fresh ingredients and light, flavour-filled dough.

Sadie O’Reilly, general manager of the Hove restaurant, said: “The thing that sets our pizza apart is the skill that goes into making them.

“Our head chef has 19 years of pizza-making experience, and the talent of all our chefs allows them to use traditional methods and a wood-fire oven to make our pizzas.”

Amici - Blatchington Road, Hove

Tucked away on Blatchington Road, Hove, this hidden gem provides pizza that looks good and tastes great.

It’s also one of the few places to offer ‘Roman Style’ pizza.

Nima, owner of Amici, said: “Roman dough is made from flour, water, yeast, salt and olive oil, and the olive oil is crucial as it gives the crust more weight and flavour whilst allowing the dough to be hand-stretched, making it wide, thin and more crunchy than the classic pizza from Naples.

“Our approach is basically to make good food that is also healthy, using fresh ingredients and good quality cheese.”

Purezza - St. James’s Street, Brighton

Purezza can be found on St. James’s Street, and is different to every other name on this list.

Founded in 2015, it became the first vegan pizzeria in the UK, with the aim of making their plant-based pizzas superior to the traditional originals.

It has since added a location in Camden.

Anita Nemeth, manager of Purezza’s Brighton restaurant, said: “Everything we use is 100% plant-based and we have been really successful, not just with vegan eaters.

“I would say that 50% of our customers are non-vegan.”

Anita also praised the city’s food scene, but revealed the secret to Purezza’s success.

She said: “I think people in Brighton are spoiled for choice when it comes to food, but fresh ingredients are what help us stand out.

“We make our own cheeses, flour and more, that’s our secret.”

VIP Pizza - Old Steine, Brighton

Claiming the top spot, VIP pizza earns its title by going the extra mile - or technically an extra 976 miles.

Rosario Donnarumma, owner of VIP Pizza, said: “We manufacture our cheese in Italy, where we are one of the biggest farms producing mozzarella cheese, and this mozzarella goes on all of our pizza.

““Most of our toppings also come from my farm, and because we manufacture the cheese and cure the meats and sausages from our own pigs we can keep our pizza at an honest price.”

The family-run business uses pizza making knowledge developed over five generations.

Mr Donnarumma said: “Our history takes us back to Naples where we established our first shop in 1845, and since then we’ve just tried to transfer our know-how to now.

“My family started collecting a little bit of milk, then started making mozzarella, and after that it was obvious that the mozzarella and the pizza were meant to be a combination, and so we opened a pizza shop.”

The family also use a secret recipe, which is a closely guarded family secret.

He revealed: “It’s a family recipe that nobody else knows. Everybody can make pizza but nobody can make the same pizza that we make.”

Mr Donnarumma emphasised the importance of this heritage in creating the perfect pizza.

He said: “It’s an Italian pizza made by Italian people.

“I don’t do fish and chips because it’s not my culture, I do pizza because I am Neapolitan and it is my culture, it’s what I grew up with.”

It is not just the cheese that receives unique treatment, the restaurant allows their dough to ferment for a minimum of 48 hours, making it lighter and full of flavour.

Mr Donnarumma also highlighted the other elements that make a great pizzeria.

He said: “In Naples pizza is a very social thing and that is something that we have achieved here.

“The secret of VIP is you can get youngsters who can afford £10 for a pizza, then you have people with a bit more money, but they still want to come here and enjoy really good ingredients and pizza.”

“It’s a place for everybody, and that is something that makes me really happy.”

He also pointed out an item on the drinks menu that helped wash the meal down.

“The main thing that goes with the pizza is the beer.

“We just have Peroni beer which, for me, is one of the best Italian beers.”
