Lifeboat volunteers have had a busy weekend dealing with callouts along the coast.

The Littlehampton crews were called out twice on Friday, after a person was reported to be in the water.

They searched an area near Bognor pier at 10.20pm, alongside the Coastguards.

Someone had been reported in the water, but the search to the west of the pier "proved inconclusive".

The lifeboat returned to the station at 11pm.

Earlier they had been called to rescue a dog which had got into difficulty.

They used an inshore D Class boat to get to Littlehampton harbour, and returned the dog to its grateful owner on the west side of the river at 1.45pm.

Earlier this month, Coastguards and the RNLI issued beach safety advice after a man died in the water at Brighton.

It was reported that several other people had to be pulled from the water on the same night by Coastguards.
