RUBBISH, roads, and issues with parking have been revealed as the city’s biggest bugbears.

The Argus has taken data from website FixMyStreet to find the biggest problems facing Brighton and Hove residents.

Rubbish is the most complained about issue.

That is followed by pavement and road repairs and parking.

Through the FixMy Street website, users can complain about an issue and mark it as “fixed” when it is dealt with by the relevant authority.

Out of the 621 complaints made over a year period, 177 were marked as fixed.

Also revealed in the data are the city’s top complainers.

A mysterious Mr Smith is the man behind 30 of the complaints.

In fact, he complained three times more than anyone else about problems which he believes are afflicting the city.

Each complaint comes with a detail of the incident and sometimes a picture to illustrate it.

Some notable examples include an anonymous report of human defecation on the seafront and a complaint from Chris Brady detailing exhibitionist behaviour which was taking place on Brighton beach.

He said: “There are a persistent few who stand erect outside the boundaries of the nudist beach.

They are fully exhibiting their genitals to all passers-by.

“As a result, horrified parents have to try and divert the gaze of their children.

“The exhibitionist behaviour of these perverts is totally unacceptable.”

The top ten biggest bugbears which were listed on the site are:

1) Refuse and recycling 155

2) Pavement and road repairs 118

3) Parking 61

4) Street Lighting 59

5) Road signs 29

6) Street cleansing 25

7) Abandoned vehicles 23

8) Trees 20

9) Blocked drains 17

10) Public toilets 3

A council spokeswoman said: “If residents have a complaint about any of our services, we ask that they contact the department involved as soon as possible so that appropriate action can be taken.

“We want to know what people think about the council services they receive so that we can make improvements.

“If we’re made aware of a problem, it’s often possible for the service to put things right quickly or explain why they’ve followed a particular course of action.”
