A person died after being hit by a train near a village railway station.
Police and paramedics were called to Littlehaven station between Three Bridges and Horsham at 2.30pm today.
The person has not yet been formally identified, police have said.
Passengers have been warned to expect delays on all lines between the two stations which have been closed while an investigation is done.
Southern Rail says some trains are being diverted via Dorking where possible.
Meanwhile Thameslink services are terminating at Horsham and starting again at Three Bridges.
The disruption is expected to continue until 6pm, and passengers have been advised to travel when the lines reopen.
British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Littlehaven station after reports that a person had been struck by a train.
“Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended, however, a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are working to identify the person and inform their family.
"This is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
