A POPE donning sunglasses and an Albion scarf, waving out of a Popemobile driven by a priest, has left onlookers scratching their heads.

Self titled Pope Trev and his driver, Ryan Holdaway, drove the vehicle around the streets of Brighton all day yesterday.

The driving priest had horns at the ready as the Pope sat in the back of the car on a special seat waving at passerby.

Pope Trev, speaking in a thick cockney accent, said: “I love the happiness that it is bringing people.

“My robes and hat have been sent directly from the Vatican.”

The Popemobile was bought three months ago and was formerly used in car rallies in Northern Ireland.

Mr Holdaway said: “We’re received a lot of attention doing this.

“I would say 75 per cent of people have a positive reaction the others just ignore us."
