Old Timbers is a 15th century house in the centre of Steyning, a historic market town. The windows had previously displayed the works of Jackie Binns an artist who lived in Old Timbers before it was bought two years ago, and since then there has been a range of art displayed in these windows.

Most recently the double windows have showcased the work of Rich Miller ,a local artist whose work “draws on themes of British colonialism and the way in which the U.K. has become an eclectic mix of cultural styles, as immigration has brought with it a rich source of influence”. His works include a large ceramic world sphere, and vases decorated with images depicting his family history and Britain as a colonial power. Rich is also the owner of Froyle tiles and was the ceramics technician on the BBC’s “The Great British Pottery Throwdown”.

Other local artists who displayed include Sarah Young (Printmaker, Painter, Designer, Maker and Illustrator) and Barbara Keal (Felt maker). With addition to a display of ceramics crafted by Ian Greggory, John Maltby and Peter Wills and others from a private collection.

Old timbers, private residence was opened to the public for the Steyning art trail, an open house event, last May.

Many artists who display in the open houses in Steyning also showcase in Shoreham and the well-known Brighton open house event, that returns on Saturday 24th November and runs for the next three weekends.

Steyning is a bustling town with an active art scene and talent artist in the making at the local secondary school.
