A man has died after falling from a bridge onto the A27.

Emergency services were called to the westbound carriageway at 6.50am near Hangleton.

Police were called to the slip road at the junction with the A293, and the road was closed until 10am.

The man who fell has not yet been identified, but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Ambulance crews were called to the scene.

Police are investigating the circumstances, and a report will be made for the coroner.

In a statement the force said: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and police are appealing for witnesses – or anyone with dash cam footage – to report it online or call 101, quoting Operation Flexor."

Brighton and Hove Buses said many services were delayed, and said one bus was stuck in the tailback.

The eastbound carriageway remained open.
