A man was left with serious head injuries after being attacked in a town centre late at night.
The 23-year-old was "seriously assaulted" in Littlehampton High Street between 3am and 3.30am on Sunday.
Police have appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
They say unemployed 26-year-old Samuel Marner, of Hotham Gardens in Bognor, has been charged with wounding under section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act.
He has been bailed and will appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court on December 11.
