TWO mums have described the heartbreak of losing their babies.

Natasza Lentner and Lisa Scarratt have turned to fundraising to help mums at the Early Pregnancy Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

For Natasza, the devastation was back in 2013, when she felt the walls were caving in around her in the hospital.

She said: “Hearing the words ‘I’m sorry there’s no heartbeat’ is utterly devastating.

“When I first heard those words, back in 2013, it felt as though the walls were caving in, the lights had dimmed and my hearing had become muffled.

“I remember the room, the unloved sofa, the oppressive walls and bare room where I sat waiting for someone to come and explain to me what was happening.”

Meanwhile Lisa remembers her experience as the worst day of her life.

She said: “In seconds mine and my partners world had changed, never to be the same again.

“We were sat in a quiet room that felt empty and hollow, exactly how I was feeling. We were cared for by the most wonderful staff but the environment just didn’t match.

“As I played the worst day of my life over in mind for weeks and months after I knew I wanted to help make a change.”

The duo turned to baby loss charity Oscar’s Wish Foundation to help improve services on offer to families who suffer the pain of losing their baby.

Last month the Early Pregnancy Unit reopened after refurbishment work was completed, and staff from the hospital cheered as Natasza and Lisa cut the ribbon.

Natasza said the unit does a vital job to reassure pregnant women, but says it is also the place where “dreams are shattered and hearts are broken”.

With support from Paul and Sara Moult from the foundation, and Brewers decorators in Uckfield, the unit at the hospital has been transformed.

It will provide support at times when families are experiencing the loss, and offer a memory bag with support and memories so that their babies won’t be forgotten.
