A POLICE motorbike has had a special makeover to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.

The Sussex Police motorcycle has been decorated with a poppy wrap to pay respects to soldiers who died in the conflict.

Sussex chief constable Giles York said: “A great contribution was given by the people of Sussex to the First World Ware in the fight for freedom and our future.

“This significant year reminds us again that it is so important that we recognise the sacrifices men and women from all parts of the country and from every walk of life made so we can enjoy our liberty today in a diverse and tolerant society.

“Remembering the fallen is as relevant today as it was back then.”

The motorcycle, which was decorated for free by a local company, will take part in the annual Motorcycle Action Group Remembrance Ride from Brighton to Newhaven Fort on Sunday.

And it will also be at a flagpole ceremony at Sussex Police Headquarters in Lewes on November 12.

Several other operational vehicles will also feature a poppy emblem next to the police crest and a poppy flag designed by a Sussex Police employee will be flown at headquarters.
