A TRESPASSER on the line has caused rail delays for the third time in a week.

Trains were cancelled between Seaford and Brighton this afternoon after a person went onto the tracks.

Southern Rail warned that trains may be cancelled or delayed and that disruption would last until 5pm.

Power was cut for safety reasons, but the trespasser was later removed from the track by emergency services and power was restored.

Trespassers also disrupted rail services between Lewes and Seaford on Wednesday and Thursday last week.

A spokesman for Southern Rail said: "We are grateful to the British Transport Police for dealing swiftly with a trespasser on the railway between Lewes and Seaford this afternoon.

"Lines have now reopened, although we expect disruption to continue until around 5pm.

"We encourage passengers whose journeys have been delayed by 15 minutes or more to claim compensation via our website."
